3M™ DBI-SALA® SELF-RESCUE DESCENT SYSTEM
STOP USE AND PRODUCT RECALL

On August 6, 2020, 3M Fall Protection announced an immediate stop use and product recall of all 3M™ DBI-SALA® Self-Rescue Descent Systems (part numbers 3320030, 3320031, and 3320037) manufactured before July 2020 to address a potential cracking/embrittlement issue with the inner plastic spool used to hold the lifeline rope. This potential condition could inhibit the ability of the Self-Rescue Descent System (“Self RSQ”) to fully descend an end user in the event of a fall. This spool is internal to the Self-Rescue Descent System and cannot be inspected.

After issuing the original recall, 3M Fall Protection detected an issue with the solution implemented to address the cracking/embrittlement issue. Variability in the manufacturing of the inner spool can impact the ability of the lifeline to deploy consistently to its full length. Accordingly, on September 25, 2020, 3M Fall Protection announced an amended recall expanding the affected range of product to include all Self RSQs (part numbers 3320030, 3320031, and 3320037) manufactured or repaired through August 2020. Self RSQs produced after August 2020 are acceptable for use.

3M™ has not received any reports of incidents relating to this matter but is taking this precautionary measure as a responsible manufacturer committed to the highest standards of product quality and safety.
